Joya Reminder丨Winter Usage Guidelines for PUR Fabric Composite Adhesive

Dec. 30, 2024

PUR Adhesive (Full Name: Moisture-Cured Polyurethane Hot Melt Adhesive)

The chemical properties of PUR adhesive determine that its curing relies on two critical conditions: moisture and ambient temperature. During winter, due to low temperatures and dry conditions, the curing performance of PUR adhesive can be significantly affected.

To address this, Jianyang’s Technical Department provides the following recommendations:

01
PUR hot melt adhesive requires water vapor to cure. Since the adhesive itself cannot generate moisture, it must absorb water vapor from the surrounding environment. In winter, especially during persistently dry and cold weather (e.g., temperatures below 10°C and humidity below 50%), it is strongly recommended that users activate atomized humidification devices to ensure sufficient moisture for curing.

02
In addition to moisture, temperature is another critical factor influencing PUR adhesive curing. The speed of the chemical reaction (i.e., moisture-curing process) is highly temperature-dependent. When composite fabric products are stored in low-temperature or sub-zero environments, the curing reaction slows significantly compared to spring, summer, or autumn, requiring extended curing (setting) time. Customers must prioritize this by adjusting production schedules to ensure composite fabrics are fully cured before proceeding to subsequent processes—such as hot stamping/embossing, cutting/sewing, or washing—to avoid quality issues and financial losses.

Note:
These recommendations are based on the product’s characteristics. Due to variations in raw materials and production conditions across customers, adjustments should be made according to actual production environments. Small-scale trials are strongly advised before full-scale production to verify product and process suitability.
